Keeping workplaces clean and sanitized is more important now than ever before, as the Coronavirus destroys lives and businesses.

It’s no longer enough to do the bare minimum – a quick dusting, vacuuming and spraying disinfectant. All of that can still leave deadly pathogens behind.

That’s why hiring a professional cleaning service is vital for workplaces safety and keeping businesses open.

“Cleaning is more than just using a mop and a broom. Professional cleaning involves knowing the chemistry and biology to effectively sanitize,” said Ingrid Murray, the CEO of Prospect Cleaning Service.

At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in New York, Prospect Cleaning Service won a major contract from the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), the largest public transportation agency in North America, to sanitize and disinfect stations, terminals and offices in the MTA’s vast network.

Her team of essential workers helped to keep the city running. In September 2020, Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams honored Mrs. Murray as one of Brooklyn’s COVID-19 Heroes.

She has been a strong advocate for recognizing janitorial staff as valued essential workers. Unfortunately, at the start of the pandemic many of them were excluded from the list of frontline workers who received proper personal protective gear and hazard pay. They were also largely underappreciated for their sacrifices.

Mrs. Murray ensures her team is properly equipped and well-trained to deliver outstanding professional service to every client.

She said there are many reasons why business owners should hire a professional cleaning company. Here are five of them.

1. Bring expertise to the job

There’s a science behind sanitizing and disinfecting.

“Generally, people clean but don’t sanitize. A lot of people don’t know there’s a difference between disinfecting and sanitizing. They just assume that once it’s clean then it’s sanitized,” she explained. “Sanitizing means removing bacteria, fungus and viruses. You must use specific agents to kill certain types of viruses and bacteria. One disinfectant isn’t a cure-all.”

Mrs. Murray completed academic work in janitorial studies that delved into the science of how to keep and maintain a safe work environment. She also stays updated on the latest Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) standards on which products are effective at combating the Coronavirus, which has mutated into different strains.

2. Assist with government requirements

The federal government has detailed COVID-19 safety requirements for commercial workplaces.

“Employers are responsible for providing a safe and healthy workplace. Conduct a thorough hazard assessment of the workplace to identify potential workplace hazards that could increase risks for COVID-19 transmission,” the CDC states.

Social distancing is one of the key components of the extensive guidelines.

“Identify work and common areas where employees could have close contact (within 6 feet) with others — for example, meeting rooms, break rooms, the cafeteria, locker rooms, check-in areas, waiting areas, and routes of entry and exit,” according to the CDC’s instructions.

Once those areas are identified, the agency calls for the modification or adjustment of workstations to comply with social distancing requirements.

However, meeting all the standards mean adding another large task for small business owners who are already multi-tasking and under-resourced. A professional cleaning service can ensure that businesses comply with government regulations.

Going forward, social distancing and deep cleanings will be part of the new normal. There’s no going back to the way things were before the pandemic.

3. Improve employee safety and workplace morale

Keeping employees safe and happy is good for business. Production slows when your most valued team members are out sick. Hiring a professional cleaning service reduces the risk of your employees contracting COVID-19.

At the same time, knowing that a professional is keeping their work environment safe from the deadly virus alleviates concern among workers and shows that management values them.

4. Maintain an environmentally friendly workplace

Hiring an eco-friendly professional cleaning service is integral to your company doing its part to help protect the environment. Professionals know which products are safe for the environment while also killing the Coronavirus.

5. Provide a wider range of needed services

In addition to helping clients maintain a safe workplace during the pandemic, a professional cleaning service can conduct a complete walk through to identify and properly handle other health issues, such as mold or mildew.
